Use of medications and risk of revision after primary total hip arthroplasty

Today total hip arthroplasty (THA) is one of the most common orthopedic procedures worldwide. In total hip arthroplasty the diseased cartilage and bone of the femoral head and acetabulum is replaced with an artificial ball joint, which includes a stem inserted into the femur with a ball on the top and an artificial acetabular socket with a liner inside. These three parts are referred to as the prosthesis or arthroplasty (Figure 1).
