Louis Kwong, MD* Laura Happe, MD* Ruslan Horbyluk, MD* Eileen Farrelly
Risk of inhospital deep venous thrombosis after major orthopedic surgery is 40% to 60%; thus, anticoagulation is recommended. Outpatient prophylaxis patterns after these surgeries are highly variable, and posthospital discharge data examining outcomes are scarce. Thus, we assessed thrombotic and major bleeds among patients treated with oral vs injectable anticoagulants post discharge.
