There has been significant improvement in the approach to the assessment of outcome following primary arthroplasty surgery over the last 10 years. This in turn has enhanced the approach to measuring outcome in patients after revision knee replacement (KR), who in general are a more complex and diverse group of patients. Accurately assessing outcome is firstly most important at the individual patient level where it is a fundamental part of managing any individual patient care. Driving good clinical practice through the use of outcome data and auditable standards of care lies at the core of the Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT) process.
