Intensive Care Society has set up a centre for national audit

The issues raised by David H Sochart and colleagues in their editorial on the need for a national arthroplasty register are similar to those that the Intensive Care Society faced in 1990.1 Although many intensive care units were collecting data on their patients, the way in which the data were collected was not standardised, which made valid aggregation of data impossible.
