It is not yet clear whether the theoretical benefits of mobile-bearing platforms for total knee arthroplasty (TKA) offer tangible benefits to patients.1,2 The current literature lacks generalizable data from large randomized controlled trials (RCTs) with long-term outcomes, and comparisons of components from the same manufacturer.3,4 A large RCT has recently compared the ten-year outcomes in patients undergoing primary cemented TKA with one of three tibial components (rotating-platform, all-polyethylene fixed-bearing, modular metal-backed fixed-bearing).5 This study demonstrated that rotating platform and fixed-bearing implants incorporating either an all-polyethylene or a modular-metal-backed tibial component offer comparable durability, range of movement and patient function.5
