Glucosamine sulphate and osteoarthritis

Layinka M Swinburne

Sir

have not commented on the powerful effect of glucosamine sulphate on the growth of fingernails and toenails. In some cases the rate of growth is trebled and the toughness of the nails is increased.

It would be interesting to learn whether this phenomenon correlates in any way with symptom relief or radiological changes. Is it an indicator of previous suboptimum intake of the substance and could it be used as a measure of adherence or effective dose?
In view of the range of doses and combinations of glucosamine sulphate available on the shelves of the health-food shops, an investigation of this feature could be worth exploration.
