Total knee arthroplasty in the young

Gurdev S. Gill; Atul B. Joshi
Knee

106 knee surgeries were performed in patients who were 55 years and younger by one surgeon. The average age at surgery was 48 (19–55) years. Osteoarthrosis was the diagnosis in 69 knees; 37 had rheumatoid arthritis. All living patients had a minimum of 10 years (10–23) of follow-up. Failure occurred in seven knees (6.6%). Survivorship analysis showed implant survival of 90% at 15 years, and 75% at 23 years for revision as an end point. The conventional total knee arthroplasty provides long-term excellent clinical results in the young patients.
