We describe a simple technique to prevent splashback whilst using pulsed lavage during knee arthroplasty. Pulsed lavage is widely used in both hip and knee arthroplasty and splashback of fluid is common. Theoretically, this could result in the transmission of infectious disease by droplet spread, infection of the wound if droplets fall back into the wound, and poor vision if the droplets land on surgical visors.
