Knee

The field of total knee arthroplasty has undergone many changes from the original concepts to the total condylar designs of today. The orthopaedic community is now faced with the expanding field of minimally invasive surgery. Whilst its application in unicondylar knee replacement is becoming widely accepted, its application to total knee arthroplasty (TKA) has aroused both interest and suspicion. Proponents have suggested faster recovery times, less pain and improved cosmesis for their patients. Critics cite the reduced visualization as a risk for poorer component placement which could compromise long term survivorship for short term gain.
