Femoro-acetabular impingement (FAI) is an abutment conflict occurring between the proximal femur and the acetabular rim that is known to cause labral and/or chondral lesions and ultimately lead to OA of the hip. The presence of labral and chondral lesions instigated by FAI, and at various stages of progression, has been confirmed during surgical dislocation of the hip. Surgical management of FAI, initiated at this institution, focuses on improving the clearance for hip motion and alleviation of femoral abutment against the acetabular rim.
