Digital Templating in Total Hip Arthroplasty

James V. Bono, MD
Hip

Joint replacement is a well-accepted treatment for arthritic conditions of the hip. Successful surgery requires precise placement of implants such that the function of the joint is optimized biomechanically and biologically. By using a digital templating algorithm, the surgeon can employ a stepwise method to determine which size of prosthesis to use and where to place the prosthesis within the bone to ensure optimum function of the joint following surgery.
