In 1999 the BOA and BASK published a joint document ‘Knee replacement: a guide to good practice’ as a consensus statement of best practice in total knee replacement. It is recommended that ‘In cemented knee replacement the bone surfaces should be cleaned, irrigated and dried before application of bone cement, and cement should be compressed where possible’. We intended to assess the current practice of total knee replacements amongst the members of the BASK with particular emphasis on the cementing techniques, and to evaluate the present practice in accordance to the guideline issued by the BOA and BASK.
